Prestressing Summit – Focus on Safety and Training

On the 8th October 2012, Spiroll will be contributing to the Prestressing Summit hosted by British Precast at the Hilton Hotel, Leicester.

The aim of the summit is to review areas of prestressing that can pose problems to safety and quality. In the light of two known fatalities internationally at companies producing prestressed products this year, the pertinence of this meeting should be clear to all.

The summit will review the current training scheme, looking at areas of it that can be refined, and whether or not is meeting the requirements of producers. As associate members and accredited providers of the scheme, Spiroll will look to be heavily involved in driving this process.

The key areas that the training scheme provides and that will be under review are:

  • Basic Awareness Health and Safety
  • Maintenance of Stressing Equipment
  • Receipt and Handling, Storage, Inspection and Placing for Production
  • Bed Operative Procedures
  • Stressing Operative Procedures
  • Management Overview of Site Safety during Stressing Operations

Also joining us at the summit will be the HSE and National Skills Academy, who accredit the course. British Precast will be briefing attendees on initiatives such as “Raising the Bar” and the PFF Code of Practice.

The event is open to all operators of prestressing beds across Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Spiroll joins British Precast in encouraging representatives of these companies to attend. With the attention and co-operation of producers, the event will hopefully go a long way to reducing risk and driving up standards throughout the sector.
